Nancy listed those to whom she has sent cards and then offered a prayer.
Devotional/prayer calendar: Linda Short
October is Breast Cancer Awareness and Domestic Violence Awareness month. She highlighted stories from the countries of Cameroon and Haiti.
She also read a devotional from “At the Feet of Ordinary Women” to help us show love to others.

Expenses = $3,141.50
Balance Forward = $3,593.16
Monica also prepared the 2014 budget to be reviewed. Since Carol Finn will return as president next year, there will be no “Outgoing President” gift, so that $35 was added to the “Literature/Subscriptions/Supplies” item line.
Correspondence: Paula Hulick
Paula read a Thank You note from a new mom who had received a layette for her daughter. She was humbled and very thankful for the gift she had received. Paula will share this Thank You with the Kirksey women as well.
Program Secretary: Jackie Beauchamp
She has received program books and prayer calendars. She also purchased a few reading books for next year’s reading program. Last year 36 participants read a total of 184 books read for our district. Further discussion regarding the reading program is listed under “A” of Unfinished Business.
Unfinished Business:
A. UMW Reading Program-update Jackie Beauchamp
Much discussion was had regarding purchasing books and the cost of the books versus having enough new books for all to read. The budget for purchasing books is currently $250, with a possibility of a few donations from individuals. A few ideas for a solution were to either adjust the budget to allow more books to be bought or go ahead and order $200 worth of books and order more if more money was donated. Effie Kemp proposed we go ahead and order $350 worth of books. This was agreed upon, but someone from the Board will also check with Monica to see if there is extra money to be spent on books.
B. World Thank Offering-Carol Finn
The General Meeting and World Thank Offering will follow this meeting. Carol thanked all those who helped in preparation of the lunch and program.
C. Christmas Tea, Sunday, December 8th 2:00-3:30-Carol Finn
Carol has contacted Martha Campbell and she will install the new officers followed by a time of fellowship. Donna Toler, chairperson of committee, told us we will have a
Birthday Party for Jesus, not a secular Christmas theme. There will be no red and green or Santa Clause themes. There will be cookies, finger sandwiches, and homemade candies and, or course, teas. Each circle needs 2 people to make about 5 dozen cookies, for a total of 10 dozen per circle. Friendship Hannah will make finger sandwiches and Ruth Wilson will buy mini muffins or mini cupcakes, 6 per package to equal 24 altogether. We are planning on 60 people but thinking about 30 will attend. Katie will be encouraging the teenage girls from the youth group to also attend. We will have a call to action to invite all women and girls of all ages. We will set up in social Hall. We will have a table for little girls. Joann Bowker will play Christmas carols, and Holly Bloodworth and Jennifer Riley will lead us in songs and read books. Donna Toler is also requesting nativities for each table. Glass plates and cups will be used, but you may bring your own tea cups as well. Donna also needs one lady from each circle to help set up and one lady from each circle to help clean up. If you want to bring in teas to donate feel free, but please give them to Donna
by November 6. The name of the event will very creatively be called “Nativi-tea”. Jennifer Riley will make posters and be on the committee. Marcia Koenecke will put this event in the newsletter and enews. The budget for this event was discussed, and since we did not spend the allotted amount on the lunches for the youth mission trips this year, the left over money, which totals about $100, was approved to be used for this program. This committee will meet again in November.
To clarify:
Hope, Wesleyan, and Tucker Frost: 2 people to make 5 dozen cookies, totaling 10 dozen homemade cookies,
1 person to set up, 1 person to clean up

60 Second Book Review: Carol Finn
Carol Finn presented the book “Praying for Strangers” by River Jordan.
In 2009 Ms. Jordan’s two sons were getting ready to go off to war, and she was not sure how she would handle it. She made a New Year’s Resolution to pray for someone, a stranger, once a day, every day, not telling the strangers she was praying for them. After about a month, God lead her to tell those strangers she was praying for them. Each chapter is one of her encounters with one of the strangers for whom she had prayed. In doing this, she realized she did not have time to dwell on her own life, like her boys going off to war. Carol highly recommends this book for each of us to read.
Closing: Carol Finn
“May the Lord bless you & keep you
May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you
May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.”
December 3rd will be the next Board Meeting.
