Cry of the Giraffe – Book for youth that follows a 13 year old’s journey of reuniting with her family
Get Up, Stand Up – Book that gives ideas of how to stand up against things that we don’t agree with
Psalms – Children’s book – paraphrasing of the Psalms with beautiful illustrations
The Mangrove Tree – Children’s book (Counts as 2 books: Social Action, Education for Ministry) about a little village that doesn’t have enough food. They come across a scientist that helps them plant trees
“Half the Sky” – was a great program, will be on again if you missed it, goes with the book: In Our Backyard – Deals with trafficking is a problem in the US
60 second Reading Program Book review – In Our Backyard
During the Super Bowl, the trafficking of young girls is a big problem. Even Murray State students were “recruited” to “meet the needs” of the men present. This book tells many stories of events, but he goes into detail about the Super Bowl. It is happening all over our country, we are the most wealthy nation and that is being “milked”. 89% of those surveyed wanted to escape prostitution. The internet is also being used to connect women with Johns. Interstate 24 is one of the largest routes used for sex trafficking.
Carol has an order for books that will be received through consignment.
Finished Business: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!!
Layettes -Bobbie and Ruth Wilson Circle took care of packaging. Dana Bazzell and Jerry Penner showed up. Great photo in the newspaper.
Thanks to everyone who helped host the District meeting. It was well attended and everyone had a good time cutting plarn, patterns, and viewing the various books and the free books. Breakfast and Lunch were served and yummy! Wesleyan Circle was there with their booth for Imagine No Malaria!
Conference Annual Day –
Carol and Jackie attended and presented their “Imagine No Malaria” exhibit, it wasn’t under the circumstance they had anticipated. They presented at a table outside of the cafeteria and didn’t have a room. They just didn’t have the space and materials needed to be effective in the presentation. But, Carol gave DVDs to all the people who stuck with her.
Carol shared a letter from her and Georgeann to involve all circles from the Memphis Conference in donating money for the nets. They are calling it“Nickels for Nets”. The goal will be for each circle to contribute $10 for nets. There is already money coming in. Overall, the Annual Day was well done. Lunch was used as a mission project for the youth at the church.
Platinum Level for Mission Today – we will have this status again.
No more plarn!! But thanks for all you’ve done!

Carol has spoken to 12 people and been told no each time. There have been several announcements shared in bulletins and newsletters. Many of the positions are filled with those already doing the job.
Vicky mentioned that the president of UMW should be someone who has been a board member so that they can come in and know what to do. We are approaching deadlines for dates for the following year.
We prayed together for guidance about who will step up for president.

September’s RESPONSE magazine – focus on human trafficking, not just women and children, also men in war situation. Another great article talking with young people in
our lives about Sex, Faith, and Values (read pg. 4 first) “God is calling you to service…” Pg. 6 has the high points for the magazine, points for Giving,
Discussion on Reproductive Health (we can’t force our believes on others), Straight Talk – being able to talk with young people about difficult topics.
Ended with a prayer, Pat read the last two lines. “Open us to sensitivity and wisdom to be the women you call us to be…”Can be related to our search for president. Let’s be flexible, creative, and imaginative.

They are a very active group. Every member is in charge of something. Lillian is in charge of Wesley meals at MSU. Georgeann is in charge of the nets, but she needs some help to help run the programs. There is a dinner coming up on Oct. 21st10-12:30pm. Youth will be helping with desserts as well.
