MISSION TODAY UNIT CRITERIA
Awards for becoming a Mission Today Unit for 2019
PLATINUM UNIT - Complete 18 items and a memory collection (scrapbook, online slide show, collage, etc.) of Mission activities for the year.
GOLD UNIT - Complete 18 items.
SILVER UNIT - Complete 10 items
BRONZE UNIT - Complete 8 items.
Criteria to become a Mission Today Unit:
1. Use the Prayer Calendar at each general or circle meeting of the unit to pray for persons in mission work.
2. At least one (1) member of the unit (other than conference or district officers), will attend Mission U and report
back to the unit.
3. The unit will use two (2) programs from the Program Books during the year.
4. The unit had at least two (2) members attend the District or Conference annual meetings and report back to the unit.
5. The unit or circle will conduct and/or participate in at least one mission study during the reporting year.
6. The unit will have at least two (2) members subscribing to Response Magazine.
7. Members will correspond with five (5) persons listed in the Prayer Calendar.
8. The unit will add at least one (1) member to its roll.
9. The unit will be a 6-Star unit, contributing to six (6) avenues of Mission Giving:
+ World Thank Offering
+Gift in Memory
+Gift to Mission
+Special Mission Recognition
+Pledge to Mission
+Candle Burning
10. The unit will make and meet its pledge to mission.
11. Each unit or circle meeting will include a "Response Moment" where an item from the Response or New World Outlook magazines will be lifted up as a way to tell the mission story.
12. The unit will implement the Charter for Racial Justice Polices in at least one (1) way during the year.
Suggestions:
14. The unit sponsored or had at least one (1) person at the Mother/Child Retreat and/or the Mission Outreach Retreat (MOR).
15. The unit will have at least (1) person joining the United Methodist Women's Action Network to receive and respond to legislative information. (To join, contact UMW Action Network, 100 Maryland Ave., NE, Box 56, Washington, DC 20002).
16. The unit will participate in the Campaign for Children in at least two (2) ways.
Suggestions:
+ Help sponsor a church or community program related to children and youth needs.
+ Sponsor a Children's Sabbath, promoted by the Children's Defense Fund.
+ Get involved with children in mentoring, tutoring and big sisters programs.
+ Write letters, e-mail or call congressional representatives and/or others in government regarding children.
+ Visit your local schools.
+ Attend a school board meeting.
+ Learn how our schools are funded.
17. Make a pledge to care for God's creation and become a "Green" unit. (Info. at http://www.umwonline.org/environment or Women's Division Office of Community Action.
18. The unit had at least two (2) members participate in the Reading Program.
19. The unit invited a district of conference officer, other than a member of the unit, to one of their circle meetings.
20. Each unit contributed to or visited the site of a district mission project.
21. Each unit provided at least three school, health, layette or sewing kits, etc. as listed by Church Women United, Golden Cross, Reelfoot Rural Ministries, Church Health Center, Hannah's Hope, United Methodist Neighborhood Center or Grace Place United Methodist Church.
22. The unit will sponsor a UMW Sunday to celebrate the Ministry of United Methodist Women.
23. The unit hosted a forum/event on one of the social action priority issues.
To be a Platinum Unit we must make a scrapbook of Mission activities for the year.
The Education and Interpretation Coordinator will report the completion of the Criteria to the District Coordinator by August 15th annually.

- Sponsored an interethnic event between two or more units;
- Recruited women of other ethnicities to be members and officers of the unit;
- Wrote elected representatives to support legislation affecting issues such as immigration, affirmative action, low income programs, civil rights, etc.
- Hold pulpit exchanges or joint worship services for a special occasion;
- Hold a joint Bible Study or Vacation Bible School.
