President Vicky called the meeting to order, the purpose was read
Sunshine Report:
Margret Fritts (in lieu of Carol Finn) reported that the following cards were sent from December to present:
Get well – Ketherine Robinson, Arvin Crafton, Judy Imes, Blanche Titsworth, Celina Hutson, Mary Beth Harp, Norma Frank, and Dick Bazzell
Sympathy – Chris Misker, Buford Anderson, Peggy Nischlas, Tom Lough, Kyser Lough, Dewy Dean, and Tom Hoffacker families
Birthday – Tootie and Carl Oakley
Devotional:
Vicky Crafton read Psalm 24:1-5 and did a devotion on creation from Response magazine Carol Wimberley updated us on the UMW prayer calendar – The focus was a lady associated with Verona hotel which offers permanent housing for women in need. We noted UMW member Dorene Grayless birthday today who is
serving in Indiana. Carol emailed her and hopes to hear back.
Cards were written for Katie Heierman and for Doris Frazer to encourage them in their messages for Women’s Sunday on Feb. 26th
Secretary Minutes:
In last meeting’s minutes we amended the ongoing business section to add Monica Bogle to the Outstanding Women selection committee.
Effie Kemp moved to accept amended minutes and Margret Fritts seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s report:
Monica reported a balance on hand of $3,660.00
Program resource secretary report:
Carol showed pictures of the retreat at Lakeshore. At the retreat, many noticed our display and gave recognition for creating a national publication.
Many dresses were stitched. Several stations were set up. Ladies also helped weather strip the cabins at
Lakeshore.
60 second Reading Program Book review - ?
Human Trafficking, during our last Paris District Officers meeting there was engaging discussion on the topic. Thistle Farms ladies were remembered and interstate 24 is main corridor for trafficking and drugs. Super Bowl week = biggest week of trafficking of the year.
As we continue to search for ways to make a difference, Carol shared some books from 2012 reading list that can help us research the topic further: I Am Nujood Age 10 and Divorced (story of an 8 year old forced into marriage)and The Slave Next Door: Human Trafficking and Slavery in the US Today.
We discussed how HUGE of a problem human trafficking (especially in women and young people).
In the 2008 Book of Resolutions there are pages devoted to aresolution: Abolition of Sex Trafficking

Response magazine = great resource Carol encouraged us to educate ourselves so that we can make a
difference. Carol suggested that circles have a reading specialist in each circle to help us keep up with current UMW reading.

Vicky expressed thanks for the following:
1. Wesleyan Circle for luncheon at December general meeting (wreck on the way to meeting!)
2. Carol W. (and Lillian), and Donna for great program at December general meeting, the Christmas program and to Donna for Installation of officers
3. Paula expressed thanks to Carol & Wesleyan Circle for feeding the doctors that provide their services at the Angel Clinic.
4. Sew a thon - Donna Toler (fabulous time, enjoyed friends from Paris 1st UMC and Flatwoods UMC) A church from Memphis was sent patterns, church from Olive Branch, MS, circles volunteered to feed the ladies, Vicky Crafton brought in baked goods, Darrell Keezer made table extensions for ladies, article was rerun in Owensboro newspaper and Effie sent patterns to ladies as a result. We will now get the July communion offering to help fund this program. Donna is going to retire from being the chair due to her husband’s health, but Margret will be the new chair for next year. Paula commented on a sewing machine that was donated as a result of the program.
Carol shared about two elderly ladies who wanted to help with the sewing and patterns were sent to them
to help.
On Going Business:
1. Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education -Vicky took 954 Labels for Education to Reelfoot in January. Vicky divided 343 Box Tops for Education between Murray Middle School and Southwest Elementary School. Keep up the good work for 2012.
2. UMW burgundy shirts $21.50 still available, see Vicky to get one
3. Kitchen committee - Paula - Has this committee been named? Did circles donate $25.00 each? Brother Rick has purchased spoons for the kitchen, Paula has purchased items, and is keeping an eye on it.
4. UMW Sunday - Feb 26th. Doris Frazer traditional Katie Hierman Early Light. Kay Gupton is in charge.
It is approaching quickly. If you are involved, be there and ready to go.
5. Nominations report for 2012 - Donna Toler -communication and membership chairs Sandra Whittenberg has stepped down from her position. Donna and Carol are working on filling the spot. Names brought up were: Linda Short, Jan Nutter, Karen Guthrie
6. Plarn - Carol W. – Keep plarning!
7. Outstanding Methodist Woman – Kay Gupton in charge, the lady is chosen and will be revealed on Feb. 26th!
8. Church web page – Nancy Doty working on it, but waiting on the webmaster
9. Circle pledge info to Monica – No pledges have been turned in yet, but some money has been received. We are waiting to hear from the circles for pledge information.
10. Children's Sabbath – Effie Children’s Sabbath is on March11th. Kristen needs two from each circle at early service and two from each circle at traditional service. (8 people at each service.) One lady will be at each door, and 3 will be sitting with the children to help with behavior. Ladies will also assist the children in the offering and counting the attendance. Effie would like the names at least a week ahead of time.
11. Thank you from President for donations to MSU Wesley Foundation $400, Help House $400, and Needline $400 from general fund
New Business:
1. Effie and Monica suggested that we honor an outstanding youth each year. Effie moved that this be started next year, and seconded it. Paula suggested that there be written criteria so that it doesn’t turn into a popularity contest. Vicky suggested that Effie, Monica, Vicky, and Amanda would meet to line out the criteria and report back.
2. Movie - Iron Jawed Angels - $250.00 to show. September 16th showing, discussion took place to see if family ministry would help co-sponsor to alleviate cost. We would like to see it be a church-wide showing. Permission given to show the movie in sanctuary, the movie will show at 6:00pm, and include the youth and children. Amanda, Kristen, Margret, Julie Bogard meet up to talk about the movie.
3. I need a volunteer to be our Mission Today Action Network liaison
Note Nancy's letter and directory page 27 #5. Carol Wimberley volunteered to serve as the liaison.
4. Note April meeting date change because of Holy Week. – We meet on the second Tuesday, April 10th.

-Shared from Response magazine on upcoming draught in Africa. Millions of people will be effected and there will be significant cost in lives (750,000 people) and finances.
-Shared about conference that focused immigration, climate change, domestic violence, human trafficking
-Shared again about the “Listen” article that Vicky shared

Social Action - Effie Kemp
-One person that we take food to has a new baby, Abby (7 months old) that was found dead on Sunday morning. Wake tonight and funeral tomorrow. Family is extremely poor, so a benefactor has prayed for the funeral.
Candle Burning Service will be on Mother’s Day, Vicky needs someone to chair the event.
Paula Hulick volunteered to help set up before. Forms need to be out by March 1st.
Circle Leaders:
Friendship Hannah - Faye Rogers
-This week is Valentine’s event, 9 couples going to Jasmines and Rick and Vicky will join
Ruth Wilson - Linda Burgess, Bobbie Waters
-Linda was not at last circle meeting due to mono
-Group decided to furnish toothpaste and toothbrushes to Merryman House continually; also they will probably add body creams. They could also use a $10 gift card once a month for gasoline.
Tucker Frost - Margaret Fritts, Donna Toler
-Planning to go to Jewish Synagogue. Harold Finn will drive the bus.
-Thank you to the veterans was signed by everyone and will be put up in the National Guard for Valentines
Day.
Wesleyan - Carol Wimberley
-We continue to sell our caps and pickles, and bundle and send the greeting cards.
-Served Wesley Foundation and Angels clinic meals, also provided meal for December program.
-Shared a Christmas Program with Wesley of Murray and are scheduled for future events with them.
Pat added: Church wide Caring Friends ministry meeting Sunday, Feb. 19th at 2pm in the CLC room
Meeting was closed with prayer and reading: Walk with Wholeness and put FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE in Action on behalf of women, children, and youth around the world.
