EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES
Tues. December 1, 2015
In attendance: Jackie Beauchamp, Monica Bogle, Nancy Doty, Carol Finn, Kay Gupton, Jan Nutter, Linda Short, Carol Wimberley, Courtney Newman, Effie Kemp, Judy Tucker
Meeting was called to order by President Jan Nutter. The UMW purpose was read by all members. Jan welcomed and thanked everyone for being in attendance and then gave an opening prayer.
Sunshine report: Judy Tucker reported that she had sent 18 “Thinking of You” cards; 4 “Sympathy” cards; 2 “Appreciation” cards. (Sunshine Report list attached.)
Devotional: Linda Short read a quote from the Prayer Calendar about peace written by Michael Airgood, General Board of Global Ministries missionary assigned to Ukraine. Her devotional centered on Christmas and serving others while trying to slow down our busy lives so that we can keep our focus on the true meaning of Christmas.
Secretary report: Minutes from the October meeting were presented: motion was made (Carol Finn) and seconded (Kay Gupton) and approved by all to accept the minutes.
Treasurer report: Monica Bogle reported that we made our 2015 budget with $1,476.30 left over to pay any end of year expenses and also have a roll over amount for 2016. Motion was made (Effie Kemp) and seconded (Courtney Newman) and approved by all to accept the report. (Treasurer’s report attached.)
Program Secretary report: Jackie Beauchamp reported that Chris Misker has taken over as the new UMW Librarian and has all the 2016 reading list books ready to be shelved. Prayer Calendars and Program Books have been received and distributed to all circles. Our UMW unit has been presented with certificates from the District for the Mission Study participation and for being a Mission Today Platinum Unit.

E. World Thank Offering Program - World Thank Service in October – approx. 30 in attendance and a very good offering - $619.90.
New business
Women's Celebration - Women’s Celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2016. A chairperson is needed for this event. Ideas for the program will be discussed at the February board meeting.
Live Nativity - Books are given to children and are from UMW in Calloway County.
Sew-a-thon - Annual Sew-a-thon will be held January 25-29, 2016. Lunches will be provide by the circles.

Social Action -Effie Kemp spoke concerning Trades of Hope
Spiritual Growth - Linda Short provided the symbolic representation of the candy cane: red for the blood Christ shed for us and white for peace of mind. Shawl Ministry has received an anonymous $500.00 gift donation. Also, Monica reported that an online knitting group has been organized on Facebook.

Unfinished business
- CASA - Jan has already delivered 124 books to CASA and there are more in the box yet to be delivered by the end of December. This will complete our Paris District local mission project.
- UMW Reading Program and Book Club Updates - Carol Finn reported that the UMW Book Club will not meet in Dec. but resume on January 14th to discuss the book “I Am Malala.”
- 2016 directory - Jan gave a big THANKS to Nancy Doty for her hard work in preparing the 2016 Directory. It is ready to be copied by Kendra in the church office.
- Outstanding Methodist Woman, Outstanding Methodist Youth - Deadline is today (Dec. 1) for Outstanding Methodist Woman and Outstanding Methodist Youth forms to be turned in. So far, there are only two for OMW and none for OMY. The selection committee consists of: Jan Nutter, Carol Finn, Linda Short, Judy Tucker, Chris Misker. They will meet in January.

- December Nativ-a-tea - December Nativ-A-Tea, Sunday the 13th, 2-4 p.m. in Social Hall. District President Donna Whitfield will install our 2016 officers; Kristen will be in charge of the little girls “hat craft” with the help of some youth; there will be good food, hot tea, musical entertainment by several mother/daughter couples and good fellowship. Jan encouraged members to invite friends and/or other women in the church. Set-up is scheduled for Saturday, December 12 @ 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday for final preparations. We hope to host 60-70 women and children.
- UMW Sunday - Vice-president Courtney Newman is working on Women’s Ministry Sunday scheduled for Sunday, February 21, 2016. She has been trying to contact Elise Bell to be our speaker with possibly Sue Engle as the second choice. She will be working on the rest of the details beginning in January.
- Backpack Ministry - Backpack assembly is set for Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. in the CLC gym. Larry Hall is picking up the items needed in Paducah and needs help unloading the boxes into the gym on Sunday, December 13th @ 5:00 p.m.
- Hootenanny Report - The Board thanked the Tucker-Frost Circle for decorating for the event. A motion was made (Linda Short) and seconded (Courtney Newman) to participate in the Hootenanny each year. Motion passed.
- Lakeshore Mission Outreach Retreat - Jan Nutter and Jackie Beauchamp attended. Elise Bell presented "Project Peanut Butter." Health kits (73) and sewing kits (12) were delivered.
- Purchase District Training - Purchase District Training was held on November 12, 2015 at Broadway Methodist in Paducah and offered individualized training for UMW officers.
- Website/Blog for Special Friends - Discussion was tabled.
