Call to order, welcome, read purpose

Linda shared a devo from “Women of Faith Infinite Grace” Mary Graham and how she experienced God’s grace, Ecclesiastes 7:14 Mother diagnosed with Alzheimer’s & father dying of cancer Had it not been for those hard years, she would not have understood grace in her life – wonderful reminder of God’s grace.
Prayer Calendar: Roots Center in Kenya (teaches orphan girls how to use a knitting machine to sell sweaters to earn income) CCW ministry (gives Lay Persons interested in ministry opportunities to serve persons in need)

Paula moved to accept the treasurers report and Jan seconded the motion
Program resource secretary - Carol Wimberley
Carol found out that she could only order one copy of each book for 2013, but more books are ordered and on the way. The list of books is in the booklet.
-Response Magazine subscriptions are available
-If you plan to participate in the reading program you need to fill out a reading program accounting form.
-Mission resources no longer provides us with reading certificates, so Carol has made certificates
60 second Reading Program Book review – The Legend of the Christmas Prayer By Brian Morgan: Man with a big Heart and little money wanted to give his friends and family wonderful gifts for Christmas and realizes that the best gifts are gifts that money can’t buy.
Finished Business:
- Thank you to Linda Short and Monica Bogle for presentation of World Thank Offering at October General Meeting. Thank you to Friendship Hannah for luncheon.

- Paris District UMW Annual Day -Effie, Pat, Jan, and Vicky attended.
We received certificates for:
-contributing to all areas of mission
-having 12 hours of Mission Study participation
-completing criteria to become a Platinum "Mission Today" Unit (which is the best you get)
Reading certificates were not awarded, but will be mailed to each unit.
At this meeting, Carol presented certificates to:

Susan Strong – completing plan 1
Margaret Fritts – completing plan 1

On Going Business:
- Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education -keep up the good work
We would like labels before the Primetimers go to Reelfoot in early January.
- Outstanding Youth and Woman of the year nomination letters due today.
Nominations are closed as of today, we have had some nominations turned in for both youth and women.
-Pat Harris, Jackie Beauchamp, and Bobbie Waters are UMW representatives. Two other ladies from the Church will be asked to serve on this selection committee. The committee will meet on Thursday, December 6th at 10:30
-Submit to everyone a copy of Guidelines for selection of "Woman of the Year"
-Carol brought up that our title is “Outstanding Methodist Woman.” Pat recommended that we look over the guidelines and bring them up to date for next year.
- Imagine No More Malaria letter- requesting $10 from each circle
Nickels for Nets, went out into the whole district
We voted to participate in the program at Murray First, and it was decided that the circles will each individually get
turn the money in
- Nominations report for 2013- Carol Finn presented us with 2013 officers:

-Officers will be installed today at the General Board, Donna Whitfield was scheduled to come but she was ill and Rick is out so Steve Kroehler and Vicky will install next year’s officers
-Circle pledge money due immediately.
-There are $1200-$1500 in extra funds: Think about how we can use this money for missions
New Business:
- Women's Sunday - Feb 10, 2013 Kay Gupton, chair
Speaker – Sandra Burnett from the Paducah District at both services, we will offer to pay her travel expenses & Kay would like to offer a gift of mission for her
Paula recommended Elyse Bell as an idea for a backup speaker in case Sandra isn’t able to come, or keep her mind for next year
Kay will prepare the order of worship right after the holidays
Circle chairmen should recruit the ushers, we will 6 ushers for each service, so each circle should have 2 committed ushers and should be there at least 30 minutes before the service
-Monica& Courtney seeking approval from board to start a new circle
-This circle will target wives and mothers and will meet on Sunday nights from 5-7pm (during
children and youth programming) hoping to strengthen UMW community by reaching young women in the church. The circle will be called the HOPE CIRCLE. Possible programs will deal with service, health and fitness,
environmental stewardship, etc.
-Vicky recommended recruiting an older member of UMW to serve as a mentor to help get the circle started
-January 20th will be first meeting, and will meet every 3rd Sunday
-Paula moved that a new circle be formed, called the Hope Circle, which will begin in January 2013 of the UMW Unit of the First United Methodist Church, Effie Kemp seconded and the motion passed

-books were handed out and reviewed
-Sew-A-Thon - Margaret Fritts, chair, Margaret will begin preparations right after Christmas, it will be the last
full week of January

Main focus is on Native Americans 1.7% of U.S. population, 28% live in poverty %29 don’t have health insurance
“Bust the Myth of Urgency” – Have you ever ended a very busy day feeling like you didn’t accomplish anything of importance? Article helps address this feeling and our priorities.United Methodist Women had a large role in
getting Hershey Chocolate company to establish fair trade and eliminate child labor in their corporation
“Let’s not just be our Grandmother’s UMW…” Importance of including women of ALL ages.
Pat Highlighted a very positive ad sponsored by UMW to combat a negative ad against Muslims
Spiritual Growth Coordinator - Linda Short
Remember each other during this season, the holidays can be hard and God’s grace will carry us through it.
Linda also personally thanked the Board for being a positive support in her life.
Social Action - Effie Kemp
-Effie was able to attend and serve at the Community Thanksgiving service and also go to St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church and helped serve
-She also acquired a lot of wrapping, etc. from Operation Christmas and they were able to take those out and distribute them
-Effie took the time to eat at Community Kitchen this past Sunday and said it was a great blessing, she recommended that we all try to do this.
Circle Leaders:
Friendship Hannah - Faye Rogers
-Pot luck dinner on December 17th
-David is home and the circle is taking food out
-Keep Faye in our prayers (juggling store, kids had to go back to work, taking care of David)
-$1,400 collected for Friendship Hannah at Thanksgiving Dinner
Ruth Wilson – Effie Kemp
-Pot Luck dinner on December 10th
-Blessed by a $500 gift from a past member who had died and they will decide what to do with that
-$229.50 have been given out for missions!
Tucker Frost - Margaret Fritts
-Started with Dee Keezers help making and selling cards to supplement income
-bought bears for Bears, Books, and Blanket
-Sandy Lynn does a wonderful presentation on new things in library, great program idea
-Donna Toler is co-chair of Tucker Frost (add to directory book)
-Youth made a banner for National Guard and Margaret gathered cookies to provide for their Christmas party, Loretta Kroehler brought donated Christmas trees they filled with beanie babies
-This Thursday (Dec. 6th) they will bring cookies to shut-ins
-$1,005 have been given out for missions!
Wesleyan - Carol Wimberley
-Imagine No Malaria luncheon profit of $435 that was contributed to committee. The youth helped serve lunch
-Began in October fashioning Christmas bags and other items to Kirksey for Christmas Bazaar
-Reinstated sale of pickles, orders were taken at Holiday Dinner, and this will continue year round
-Still have FUMC hats for sale
-Wesley Housing = perpetual project, Dec. 10th is the Christmas program with them, Murray Women’s Club will
present music and there are Christmas bags for residents
-Every circle in the Memphis conference has received a Nickels for Nets letter and money has started coming in from all around the conference
-$1,341.73 has been given to various mission projects this year from the Wesleyan Circle!
