The reading list for 2014 has not been received yet, so no ordering has taken place. September 1 is the
deadline for turning in the reading list from this past year. More discussion regarding ordering books is listed below under “New Business”.
Unfinished Business:
A. Women’s Celebration: Carol Finn
Carol Finn thanked everyone for helping make it a success. There were about 60 people who attended. A good suggestion for next year would be to provide rides for those in need.
B. Outstanding Methodist Women-Paula Hulick
Paula Hulick distributed the nomination forms to each circle leader. The selection committee was appointed which includes Carol Finn, Donna Toler and Jan Nutter from the Board and still need two others from the congregation. Publicity will begin in the bulletin and newsletter in September with
reminders to follow.
C. Outstanding Methodist Youth
Since not much publicity, UMW will do a Call to Action in last part of October or early November. Since
Amanda has the form, Monica will email Katie to update her and get the form. Last year’s guidelines were passed out to be updated. The deadline was decided to always be on December 1st and delete the
announcement of being in March but update to be announced at Youth Sunday. Also,
add that no past recipient can be nominated again. Same updates to be made on the nomination form as well.
Vacation Bible School: Carol Finn
Carol Finn presented the idea of heading up the kitchen portion of VBS. Judy Stahler was in charge this year. The Kitchen is very intensive and a great undertaking. Paula Hulick mentioned even if UMW headed this, we would still need more help. It was decided that UMW will be supportive and encourage others but do not think this is something UMW can do ourselves. Also, it was discussed to maybe get
more donations and get sponsors to purchase certain foods, in lieu of preparing and cooking so much food. Maybe Kristen could add this to the “Donations Needed” Board. Paula presented the motion
that UMW will not take ownership but will provide help with preparation and serving for VBS as volunteers and not as in charge. It was seconded and passed.
D. Layette: Kay Gupton
Tiffany purchased the layette items, and this project is completed. Kay Gupton, Terese Shemwell, Marcia Koeneke, Faye Rogers, and Tiffany Shemwell helped assemble 36 layettes and have
delivered 18 of them. Kay found 22 layettes in the work room, and she delivered them as well.
Dana called and said she needed layettes again, so Kay assembled more and delivered them. More are located in the layette room, lacking wipes, but are completed otherwise.
A thank you note will be sent from the Board to Tiffany for all her help with this project.
E. Mission Unit Today: Paula Hulick & Carol Finn
Paula stated the form is complete, but is in need of some clarification. We have met all the criteria,
except making the scrapbook. Monica Bogle graciously nominated the HOPE Circle to prepare the
scrapbook at the September Circle meeting. Each circle needs to send pictures and descriptions to Nancy Doty, and Nancy will give them to Monica for the Hope Circle.

order to get the books earlier. A motion was presented to form a reading committee to choose our books and order them ourselves.

the circle meetings and inform them of the books that are available. Sandy Lynn can also cross check the books we choose with the public library. We also discussed purchasing some electronic readers to be able to offer more books. We will keep it local in selecting and ordering the books.
