EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES
Tuesday, April 2, 2013
Members present:
Kay Gupton, Ruetta Turner, Effie Kemp, Donna Toler, Vicky Crafton, Linda Short, Nancy Doty, Jan Nutter, Jackie Beauchamp, Carol Wimberley, Pat Harris, Paula Hulick, Carol Finn, Margaret Fritts and Marcia Koenecke.
President Carol Finn
called the meeting to order by asking all to read the purpose statement of the
UMW. She welcomed everyone and offered prayer.
Sunshine Coordinator Nancy Doty
reported sending get well cards to: Ray Broach, Peggy Brown, Hazel Matthai, Lois
Keller, Jo Fielder, Benson Blackie, John Ed Scott; birthday card to: Ruby Suffill; sympathy cards to: Catherine Silvills (grandmother), Richard Reed (Aunt), Kay and John Wand (Mother); concern cards to: Chad and Ashley Fritsche (son, Kyle); congrats cards to: Danny Shaw, Erin Bugg, Sam and Melissa Chambers, Marie Lyons, Kathryn Heierman, (new members); Michael and Whitney McClain (baby boy), Donna Toler (Outstanding Methodist Woman); Hannah Riley (Outstanding Methodist Youth), Zee Enix (90th birthday).
Devotional/prayer calendar/prayer calendar activity by Linda Short
was devotion from Prayers of Comfortshowing how gray days can turn onto
peace through our Lord. She shared the prayer calendar information and activity
with the group.
Pat Harris made a motion to accept the February 2013 minutes as received via email. Second was made by Paul Hulick. Motion carried.
Treasurer Monica Bogle
provided handouts in her absence reporting a balance on hand of $4,737.00.
Program Secretary Jackie Beauchamp
gave a report on the Paris District Mission Study that she and Effie attended. She handed out the Response Magazines.
Carol Wimberley gave the 60 second Reading Program Book review reporting on the author Wilma Mankiller and the American Indian encouraging all to read her book,
Every Day is a Good Day that is on the reading list.
Unfinished Business:
Kay Gupton reported that the “Outstanding Methodist Woman” Sunday went very well
this year.
Paula Hulick handed out a Guideline for Selection of “Outstanding Methodist Woman”
asking for each to look it over and bring back to June meeting with comments.
Margaret Fritts reported that the 13th annual Sew-A-Thon was fantastic with over 70 volunteers.
Carol Finn reported a wonderful Holy Week with outstanding services and a high of 60 people attending the luncheons.
General Meeting today at 11:00 am is “Prayer and Self Denial” with Effie Kemp and Jan Nutter in charge of the program. There will be a guest speaker from Four Rivers
speaking on Domestic Violence.
After some discussion, a motion was made by Linda Short to have a Tea on December 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm and install the 2014 officers and approve the 2014 budget. Pat Harris seconded the motion and it carried.
New Business:
Paula Hulick brought up an idea to incorporate the many avenues of the creativity of
the ministries of the women of the church that have to do with hand work such as
sewing, knitting, etc. and use it as the theme for the June 5, 2013 Women’s
Celebration. Kay Gupton made a motion to use this theme and Jan Nutter seconded the motion and it carried.
Paula Hulick asked for volunteers for meals for Angel’s Clinic for April 16 and
October 1. Paula, Jan, Donna and Linda will provide the meal for April and Effie
for October.
Nancy Doty handed out forms for the Candle Burning Donations. Deadline to have the money turned in is May 15th. Each of the circle presidents should collect them and give them to Monica Bogle.
Guidelines for“Outstanding Methodist Youth” subcommittee appointments were
tabled.
Amanda Lough has resigned as secretary of the board since she will be entering Emory University Seminary this fall as she has answered the call to ministry. Beth
Meyers and Amber Meadows have agreed to be co-secretaries for the board.
Other:
Nancy Doty handed out directory inserts with the Hope Circle information. She also
passed around samples of greeting cards the members of Hope made for UMW Board Sunshine.
April 13th is the District Mission Study on Poverty at Trinity UMC at 9:00 am. All going should meet at the church by 8:00 am to leave.
April 25, 26, 27 and 28 is the Spiritual Growth Retreat at Lakeshore.
Mission Coordinator Reports:
Membership and Nurturing, Jan Nutter reported contact with one young woman who has recently joined the church.
Education, Pat Harris shared Response articles from February and March.
Social Action, Effie Kemp reported helping six families with the items donated by
members of UMW.
Communication, Marcia Koenecke asked for any information to be publicized to be in by 15th of month. Unit Information for April District Newsletter was sent.
Historian, Donna Toler needs any information that anyone has that should be saved.
Spiritual Growth, Linda Short gave an appropriate prayer for our meeting.
Circle Leaders:
Friendship/Hannah: Collecting items for Effie’s mission work and February Valentine’s meeting was at the “Mystery Dinner” for the International Missions.
Hope: Made cards for UMW Sunshine and will be “going green”.
Ruth Wilson: Collecting shampoo and conditioner for Effie’s mission work.
Tucker/Frost: Have cards for sale, visited Eleanor Diuquid, Sew-A-Thon, and provided dinner for Wesley Foundation in February.
